Blues in town 2019
Son of an American singer and opera teacher, who specialized in Milan, and Enzo Finardi, a sound engineer from Bergamo, he has a double Italian and American passport. After recording a disc of children’s songs at the age of nine (“Balloon rosso fuoco”), he began his career in the seventies as a rock musician, in groups such as Tiger, Il Pacco with the young Italian-Brazilian guitarist Alberto Fitting rooms. He then began writing songs with lyrics in English, and in 1973 Number One (record company owned by Mogol and Lucio Battisti) released his first single, with “Spacey stacey” and “Hard rock honey”, songs with similar sounds. to hard rock, sung in English, of which Finardi writes the music (the lyrics are by the Californian singer-songwriter Marva Jan Marrow). He then decides to switch to Italian, with direct and committed lyrics, and is put under contract by Cramps by Gianni Sassi, Sergio Albergoni and Franco Mamone, who publishes his first album in 1975: it is called DON’T THROW ANY OBJECT FROM WINDOWS, and it also contains a rock cover of the folk song “We will greet the master”.
Success comes the following year with SUGO which brings with it two of his most famous songs “La radio” and “Musica Ribelle”. Follows the album DIESEL, 1977, considered among his best, which contains other songs that have become famous such as “Non è nel cuore”, “Diesel” and “Never Become Great”. From the collaboration with the Crisalide group, which includes Ernesto Vitolo on keyboards and Stefano Cerri (son of the most famous jazz guitarist Franco Cerri) on electric bass, the ’78 BLITZ album was born, which contains among others the songs “Extraterrestre” and “Cuba”, in the texts the unease due to the cultural ebb in Italy of those years is markedly noted. Also with Crisalide is published ROCCANDO ROLLANDO of ’79, which moves away from the rock sounds of the previous records, also approaching reggae in “Legalizzatela”, Calypso in “15 Bambini” (with which he participates in the 1979 Festivalbar) and acoustic ballad in “The song of the water”. In 1981 he released the homonymous album FINARDI where in some songs he collaborated with the author of the lyrics of the Pooh Valerio Negrini. On this album the song “Trappole” dominates, of which he will also write the English version. He writes “Laura degli specchi” for Alice. After a disc in English SECRET STREETS, where he also revisits some songs of the previous disc, in 1983 it is the turn of DAL BLU which contains “The girls of Osaka” and “Amore different”. The album is dedicated to her daughter Elettra, born with Down Syndrome. This is followed by “I would like to wake up” with which he made his debut at Sanremo 1985, a prelude to the album COLPI DI FULMINE, an album that opens up to more syncopated and jazz-inspired registers.

DOLCE ITALIA is from 1987, while in 1989 the singer-songwriter publishes IL VENTO DI ELORA with the famous “Vil Coyote” where he traces in an original way similarities between real life and cartoon characters. In 1990 with LA FORZA DELL’AMORE, he reinterprets some of his songs in a modern key, with the participation of Ligabue, Ivano Fossati (in “Rebel Music”) and Rossana Casale (in “The girls of Osaka”). After MILLENNIO in 1991, ACUSTICA comes out with the song “Katia” (1993) and “Le donne di Atene” (translation signed together with Alberto Camerini of the famous song by Chico Buarque de Hollanda “Mulheres De Atenas”). In 1996 he recorded “Uno di noi”, the Italian version of Joan Osborne’s hit “One of Us”; the song, following the original text, deals with issues related to faith in God. Finardi begins to show signs of impatience with the record industry which coincides with “Amami Lara” (his second presence at Sanremo 1999), while ACCADUEO is the album of 1998, which the following year is re-released with the addition of the aforementioned song, inspired by the fictional character of Lara Croft, protagonist of the video games of the Tomb Raider series. After having fulfilled these contractual obligations, he returns to refer to the alternative music environment and in the new millennium he has dedicated himself to various niche projects. With Francesco Di Giacomo, singer of Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, and Marco Poeta he dedicates a record to Fado, Portuguese music (O FADO, 2011). IL SILENZIO E LO SPIRITO is from 2003 and is an album of undoubted charm, recorded live, in which he explores the relationship between Music and the Absolute with songs such as “Orleans” by David Crosby “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen and ” The return of Giuseppe ”by Fabrizio De André. 2005 is the year of ANIMA BLUES in which Finardi celebrates his love for this genre, an album of unreleased songs in English that receives critical acclaim and positive reviews in international trade magazines. ANIMA BLUES, co-produced by guitarist Massimo Martellotta, sees Pippo Guarnera at the Hammond and Vince Vallicelli on drums becomes a successful tour with more than one hundred concerts. In 2007 the anthological collection UN UOMO was released in stores, which traces the different moments of Finard’s career: the first three CDs offer a series of songs, presented in an emotional and non-chronological order, chosen directly by the author, while the fourth is a compilation of unpublished, auditions and rarities. The liner notes are edited by Fernanda Pivano. 2008 is the year of Finardi’s theatrical debut. At the Teatro dei Filodrammatici in Milan the premiere of Sound produced by Francesco Venuto for the Raiser agency is staged from which the homonymous DVD produced by Gianni Salvioni is extracted, a show in which the artist tells through monologues and songs over thirty years career. The band that accompanies him in this project is made up of: Max Carletti (guitars), Paolo Gambino (piano and keyboards), Federico Ariano (drums and percussion) and Stefano Profeta (electric bass and double bass). In the same year Finardi tries his hand at the Contemporary Classical in IL CANTANTE AL MICROFONO, record and concert for voice and classic sextet. Together with the Sentieri Selvaggi ensemble, directed by Carlo Boccadoro, Finardi performs the songs of the Russian poet Vladimir Vysotsky orchestrated by the composer Filippo Del Corno and translated by Sergio Secondiano Sacchi. The album wins the Targa Tenco, for the best interpretation. With the ensemble Entr’Acte directed by Carlo Boccadoro he records “The Story of the Piccolo Sarto” by the Hungarian composer Tibor Harsany, freely taken from the tale of the Brothers Grimm with which he made his successful debut at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan on 27 January 2010. Again with Entr’Act and Boccadoro he returns to the prestigious theater the following year with “I Cavoli a Merenda” to music by Boccadoro himself and texts by Sergio Tofano. In April 2009 he participated in the recording of the song “Tomorrow 21/04/09” by Mauro Pagani, the proceeds of which will be donated to the populations affected by the earthquake in L’Aquila. In 2009 she sang in Claudio Baglioni’s latest album “Q.P.G.A.”, in the song “Lungo il viaggio”, which is the original title of the best-known song with the title “Traveling”. In March 2010 he produced the album “L’occhio della Luna” by the young singer-songwriter Roberta Di Lorenzo which he discovered at an audition in October 2007. At the beginning of 2011 IL CANTANTE AL MICROFONO, becomes a DVD distributed by Medusa and published by the record company Hermitage. On January 21, the first book written by Eugenio Finardi in four hands with Antonio G. D’errico is released: “Moving the horizon – how to survive 40 years of Rock” published by Rizzoli in which Finardi exposes his philosophy of life. On January 28, 2011 begins “Eugenio Finardi Electric Tour 2011”, a tour that marks his return to the rock of the origins, re-proposing songs from the beginnings from albums such as “Sugo”, “Diesel”, “Finardi” and “Do not throw any object from windows “.To accompany him a new band formed by: Marco Lamagna (bass), Claudio Arfinengo (drums), Paolo Gambino (keyboards) Paolo Zanetti (guitars) and Giovanni Maggiore (guitars), followed by Claudio Rossi (violin and picks). On 1 May 2011 he was invited to open the concert in Rome with the anthem of Mameli in taranta / rock version, while in September, at the Traffic Festival in Turin and at the Palasharp in Milan, he will participate in a tribute to Cramps records, the label for which it had debuted over thirty years earlier. On the same evening, in addition to Finardi, Claudio Rocchi and the reunited Area (who had played in the Milanese singer-songwriter’s albums “Sugo” and “Diesel” perform). In addition to his usual set, Finardi re-proposes – after 30 years – “Diesel”, performed by Finardi’s band with Patrizio Fariselli on keyboards, and will be the guest of the final of the Area set, with which he performs their classic “Joy and revolution”. 2012: participates in the 62nd edition of the Sanremo Festival with the song “And you call it God” song that bears the signature of the singer-songwriter Roberta Di Lorenzo, reaching the final. The duets with Noa and the Solis and with Peppe Servillo of Avion Travel are memorable. During the Festival, SESSANTA triple album comes out with 5 unreleased tracks, among which “Passerà”, with lyrics by Zibba and “Nuovo Umanesimo” written together with Max Casacci of Subsonica with whom he begins a collaboration that will continue in 2013. “Nuovo Umanesimo” sees Finardi return to the sounds and themes of his beginnings and gives his name to the tour that sees him busy until autumn. He returns to the Concertone on May 1st also in 2012 when Mauro Pagani invites him to interpret “Like A Rolling Stone” by Bob Dylan, and in 2013 when Elio E Le Storie Tese called him to sing “A Piazza San Giovanni” song, written by them in his typical style, which is the prologue to the single “Il Complesso Del Primo Maggio” taken from their CD “Album Biango”. From 2012 to the end of 2013 Finardi is involved in the “New Humanism Tour” both in the electric version, accompanied by his young band (Giovanni Maggiore, Paolo Gambino, Marco Lamagna and Claudio Arfinengo), and in the acoustic version “Words & Music”, accompanied only for piano and guitar, suitable for more intimate environments that allow you to establish a more intimate dialogue with the spectators. With these musicians, in the breaks of the tour, he begins to compose new unreleased songs in Italian, inspired by the daily reality marked by the heavy economic crisis.
In 2015, in addition to continuing the live activity incessantly, he is the Artistic Director of May Day Bologna as well as the Artistic Director of the “Christmas in the Caves”, an event organized at the Castellana Caves at a depth of 70 meters, and to which he personally invites Simone Cristicchi , Stefano Bollani and Claudio Baglioni. Both positions will be reconfirmed for 2016. 2016 is the year of “40 YEARS OF REBEL MUSIC”: a great project aimed at recovering the sense of an artistic and existential attitude, born from the accidental discovery of the Cramps archive with tapes originals of the first 5 albums by Eugenio Finardi but also unpublished images and testimonies which reveal a unique vision of the future that is reflected in an unrepeatable sound. Thus, from the beginning of the year, a series of projects inspired by Rebel Music as an indomitable spirit that has characterized Finardi’s entire career come to life. The work of recovering and reprinting the original tracks of his first precious records is meticulous and goes hand in hand with the recovery of photographic and iconographic archive material and with the creation of a television special for Sky Arte HD that documents all the work.In addition, in October 2017 Eugenio returns to the radio as a conductor in two different programs: the first on Radio2, entitled “Me Anziano YouTubers” conducted together with Federico Bernocchi and Claudio Di Biagio; the second on Radio InBlu, entitled “La Musica è Ribelle”, a program instead conducted solely by Eugenio with musical schedules linked to themes he himself selected from time to time. 2018 is the year of a new theatrical project, “FINARDIMENTE”, a mixed show of music and words that debuts in January with a double sold out at the Blue Note in Milan. FINARDIMENTE, a compound word that is both an adverb, a name and a verb, represents Eugenio’s desire to reveal his truth behind every form of artistic representation, through a sincere story as well as through his music. The show, conceived and presented in the first months of the year in theaters, is then adapted by popular demand and re-proposed during the summer in locations en plein air. Eugenio’s radio commitment on Radio Inblu also resumes in October. His program, La Musica è Ribelle, is in fact reconfirmed for the second year in a row, maintaining the same format: an hour of free musical selection curated and commented by Eugenio himself, which revolves around the most disparate musical, artistic and social themes .
